Magic Matcha

You might have been seeing matcha powder online a lot lately, as it’s become a very popular ingredient over the last couple of years, particularly on social media. The vivid green powder is not just a tiktok trend though, as matcha has been around for centuries. It’s made by grinding tea leaves into a fine powder and is instantly recognisable from its distinct vibrant green colour. In recent years it’s found fame on social media as a tasty addition to lattes and desserts, but beneath the trend is one of the healthiest members of the tea family.

Matcha powder is loaded with antioxidants as it requires very little processing to make, and because of its powdered nature means that you consume all of the goodness the plant has to offer, unlike it’s green tea cousin whose leaves are steeped in water and then discarded. This makes it an excellent way to give your body a healthy dose of antioxidant goodness.

It also contains more caffeine than regular black tea, which makes it an excellent healthy alternative to coffee, if you need that extra boost to get through the day. Add to that the fact matcha has been found to contain L-theanine, an amino acid that has been shown to reduce stress and it’s looking like a win / win for the mighty matcha.
