What is Cold Brew Tea?
Similar to cold brew coffee, cold brew tea is simply just tea steeped in cold water for an extended period of time, making it perfect for the hot Aussie summer.
Benefits of Cold Brewing
There are many benefits to Cold Brew tea, the first one being it’s absolutely delicious!
When you cold brew tea it will taste slightly sweeter than when steeping tea in hot water. This is because then tannins (which make tea bitter) can’t be steeped out of the tea when you use cold water.
How to make the best cold brew!
Making Cold Brew tea is probably the easiest thing ever. You’ll need a total of 2 ingredients;
- Cold water
- Your choice of loose leaf tea
To a jug or bottle or really anything you like add 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of loose leaf tea. Leave your tea in the refrigerator for the recommended amount of time depending on the type of tea you’re using
When the time is up, use a mesh strainer and pour the tea through the strainer into a new jug catching all of the loose tea leaves. And that’s pretty much it, if you want to make your tea even sweeter you can add a teaspoon of simple syrup and give it a good stir.
Tips and Tricks
- Add some ice cubes for extra ice cold tea!
- Cold Brew tea can last up to 4 days in the refrigerator, but it’s best to make a new batch every 2 day to avoid stale tea.
- The best way to store your cold brew tea is in a glass container. Plastic tends to stain and leave behind some weird odors

Using loose leaf tea (like ours) is the best way to make Cold Brew tea. Yes you can use tea bags but cold brew made from loose leaf tea is so much more flavourful, simply because loose leaf tea is higher quality than the tea you get in teabags.

- 1 Cups Water : 1.5 Teaspoons Loose Leaf Tea
- 2 Cups Water: 1 Tablespoon Loose Leaf Tea
- 4 Cups Water: 2 Tablespoons Loose Leaf Tea
Brew Time:
The ideal brewing time for different teas varies.
White Tea: 6 Hours
Green Tea: 3-6 Hours
Black Tea: 12 Hours
Oolong Tea: 12 Hours
Herbal Tea: 12 Hours
